We started when eight charter members established the CAA Region 6 Federal Credit Union in July 1949 to serve Civil Aeronautics Administration employees and their families located in Western states of the US.
The Credit Union grew rapidly, and by December 31, 1949, boasted 200 members and assets of $19,887.53. From conducting transactions out of a cigar box during breaks and lunch hours, SkyOne Federal Credit Union has grown to become a dynamic financial institution, providing its members with the best financial products and services available.
Over the years, we have experienced many name changes with the addition of new groups and increased territory. When the CAA changed its name to the FAA, so did the credit union. FAA Western Federal Credit Union served FAA employees in 13 Western states.
In April 2000, we changed our name to FAA First Federal Credit Union, which reflected an expansion to serve FAA employees in Alaska and eight Great Lakes states. Later, we changed our charter to serve all employees nationwide who work in the air transportation industry. This includes employees of FAA, TSA, airlines, air cargo companies, and more.
In January, 2010, we officially changed our name to SkyOne Federal Credit Union to better reflect our entire field of membership — the nationwide air transportation industry.
Today, we serve 36,000 members nationwide and have $460 million in assets. We’re very proud of serving members over 60 years and stand firm on our commitment to providing products and services that help meet financial needs.
President & CEO
Joseph has more than 34 years of experience in financial services, with the past 28 years in the Credit Union industry. Before joining SkyOne in October of 2018, he served as the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer & Chief Credit Officer for Kinecta Federal Credit Union in Manhattan Beach, California. He has held many Board leadership positions in the credit union industry and in the community. Joseph earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington and an MBA from the University of Colorado.
Chief Lending Officer
Jeff has been with SkyOne Federal Credit Union since 2007. The Lending Division is comprised of Lending (both consumer and real estate), Loan Servicing, and Visa Operations. Jeff has a Bachelors Degree in Economics from California State University at Long Beach. He is also a graduate of Western CUNA Management School.
Chief Marketing Officer
Cassie has over 14 years of marketing and communications experience, with the last 10 years in marketing and management positions in the financial services industry. Cassie was SkyOne’s Director of Marketing and Product Development from 2015 to 2017, and held the Marketing Manager position at SkyOne from 2008 to 2015. As the Chief Marketing Officer, Cassie oversees SkyOne’s Marketing, Business Development, and Investment Services departments. Cassie holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from California State University, Fullerton. She is also a graduate of Western CUNA Management School. Cassie currently serves on the Board of Governors for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ Beach Cities Chapter.
Chief Operations Officer
Astrid has been with SkyOne Federal Credit Union since 2007. The Operations Division is made up of SkyOne branches, the Member Service Center, the Member Relationship department, and the Operations Support department. She was the Chief Marketing Officer for SkyOne from 2009 through 2017. Astrid has a Bachelors Degree in Management from California State University at Dominguez Hills. She is a member of Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Operations, Sales and Service Council and the Credit Union Executive Society (CUES). Astrid served on the Marketing Association of Credit Unions Board of Directors from 2011 through 2017 and served as Board Chair from 2014-2015. She currently serves as Treasurer for the California Credit Union League’s Beach Cities Chapter Board of Governors. Astrid is a graduate of Western CUNA Management School. In 2014, she received congressional recognition for Outstanding Business Leadership in the Financial Service Industry.
Chief Technology Officer
Raymonde has 23 years of experience in the financial sector. As the CTO, Raymonde oversees Information Technology, eServices, and Facilities. Raymonde has worked in many facets of banking operations and management, including prior posts as AVP of Project Management Team and Vice President of Information Technology at other financial institutions. He has a passion for technology and the positive impact it could make in how businesses are managed. Raymonde has a Bachelors degree in Business Management from California Baptist University.
Chief Financial Officer
Michael Perez has over 9 years of finance and accounting experience, and joined SkyOne as the Accounting Manager in 2016. As Chief Financial Officer, Mike manages the Finance Division, comprised of the Accounting and Risk Management departments. Prior to joining SkyOne he worked as a credit union external auditor, where he gained an appreciation for the credit union movement. Mike is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of Southern California.

Together, our Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee ensure we achieve our mission of providing financial peace of mind to our members, as well as upholding SkyOne’s fiscal strength and stability.
SkyOne’s Board of Directors consists of a team of volunteers who have dedicated their careers to serving the air transportation industry. The Board governs and advises on all aspects of the credit union’s internal and external operations by selecting its Supervisory Committee, setting policies and procedures, and offering counsel on the best ways to increase SkyOne’s growth and improve customer experience.
Mr. Murphy has been a member of SkyOne Federal Credit Union since 2003. He has served on SkyOne’s Board of Directors since 2009, and is currently serving as Chairman. He served on SkyOne's Supervisory Committee from 2005 to 2009. Mr. Murphy recently retired from his post as FAA Regional Administrator for the Southern Region. During his 40-plus years of service with the FAA, Mr. Murphy served in positions including FAA Regional Administrator, Northwest Mountain Region; Air Traffic Division Manager, Southwest Region; and Director of Air Traffic Programs, FAA Headquarters. Mr. Murphy holds both a Masters and Bachelors Degree in Aviation Management. He is the recipient of 45 national awards, including Department of Transportation’s Silver Medal for Meritorious Service, ATCA Outstanding Air Traffic Manager, Congressional Letter of Commendation, Federal Executive Leadership Award, and FAA Distinguished Career Service Award.
SkyOne Federal Credit Union member since 2004. Dr. Byrne currently serves as the Vice-Chairman on SkyOne’s Board of Directors and previously served 8 years as the Chair of Skyone’s Supervisory Committee. In his civilian capacity, he is the Director of Labor Litigation for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Washington, DC and formerly worked as an FAA attorney with Office of Regional Counsel, Western-Pacific Region. Dr. Byrne is a licensed attorney in the states of CA, WA, and NV (inactive) as well as a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA – WA). He has earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business Administration and Foreign Languages from Seattle University, a Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Pepperdine University, a Masters of Laws (LL.M) in Taxation from Loyola Law School, and has completed his Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration. Dr. Byrne also serves as a LTC in the United States Army Reserves, Judge Advocate General’s Corps, assigned to the Pentagon. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), American Bar Association (ABA) and American Society for Public Administration (ASPA).
SkyOne Federal Credit Union member since 1983; has served on the Board since 1999 and currently serving as Recording Officer; served on the Supervisory Committee from 1997 to 1999; also serves on SkyOne’s Asset/Liability Committee.
30 years of service in FAA; currently Executive Technical Representative for the Director of Technical Operations for the Western Service Area of the FAA. headquartered in Seattle; Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Anselm College, Manchester, NH; Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law, San Diego, CA; Certified Credit Union Director designation from Credit Union Executives Society; member of Nevada Bar Association, 1981; Served as a Captain in the US Army JAG Corps, Reserve.
SkyOne Federal Credit Union member since 2001. Currently serving as Treasurer on SkyOne’s Board of Directors. Served on SkyOne's Supervisory Committee from 2001 to 2015. Worked for the FAA as an air traffic controller for 28.5 years at the Anchorage Air Enroute Traffic Control Center (ARTCC). For three years, was the Alaskan Regional Coordinator for FAA/NATCA’s Quality Through Partnership (QTP) program. From 2010 to 2012, was part of the FAA/NATCA labor relations team, which investigated and addressed labor relations issues at FAA field facilities. Charter Member of the National Air Traffic Controllers' Association (NATCA); served as the Alaskan Regional Vice President on NATCA’s National Executive Board for 12 years, served on NATCA's National Finance Committee for three years, and is currently serving as the president of NATCA Members Investment (NMI); was also elected as Anchorage ARTCC NATCA Local's first Vice President also served as President. Thompson was awarded NATCA's Dale Wright Award for a distinguished career in service to NATCA and the national airspace system; received NATCA's Timmy Award for professionalism, service and dedication to the union and its members; earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota, including a Professional Pilots license with an Instrument Rating; completed an 18 month Certified Financial Planning course from Florida State University.
Joined SkyOne Federal Credit Union in 1976 and was elected to serve on SkyOne's Board of Directors as a volunteer in 1997. Was employed with the FAA for 34 years and retired in 2007 as a Senior Executive, Director of Western Terminal Service Area based in Seattle, Washington.
Since retirement John founded his current company and today is the CEO, employing over 70 nationwide, and has contracts with the DoD (Army, Navy & Air Force), FAA, Mojave Spaceport, Palmdale School District, Kern County and other commercial entities, both as a sub-contractor & prime contractor.
Mr. Henshaw has been a member of SkyOne Federal Credit Union since 1977. He has served on the Board of Directors since 2009, and also served on the Supervisory Committee from 1999 to 2009. Mr. Henshaw retired from the FAA after more than 35 years of service. During his time at the FAA, he held the positions of Manager Communications/Telecommunications Engineering Group, Technical Operations, Western Service Area; Manager, Executive Staff, Airway Facilities Division, Western-Pacific Region; Program Manager, Systems Research & Development Service, FAA Headquarters; and Manager of the Southern California TRACON Project Office, Air Traffic Division, Western-Pacific Region. Mr. Henshaw holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University.
SkyOne Federal Credit Union member since 1960. Served on the Board of Director since 1989; has served as Chairman, Vice Chairman, Recording Officer and Treasurer.
Employed with FAA from 1959 to 1994; retired, Manager, Human Resources Development Branch, FAA Western Pacific Region; currently employed with Lockheed Martin, in support of the FAA’s Environment and Safety Program; served four years with the U.S. Air Force.
Appointed annually by the Board of Directors, SkyOne’s Supervisory Committee plays a critical role in the credit union by protecting our members’ privacy and our organization’s safety. This volunteer team’s primary responsibilities encompass all security measures by overseeing annual audits and maintaining compliance with policies and procedures set forth by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and the Board of Directors.

SkyOne's Volunteer At-large Program (VAP) is a 12-month leadership development program that prepares its participants to become future Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee Members of SkyOne. Through training and development, participants gain valuable experience in finance, banking, risk management, information security and corporate governance.
