Visa and the merchant determine the industry category and codes for merchants, generally based on the merchant’s line of business. A purchase will not earn promotional points if the merchant’s category code is not an eligible category for the promotion or if the merchant’s transmitted city name does not register as the city of Hermosa Beach.
